Primerica is a great company and is providing financial services through a Network Marketing business model. Their headquarters is based in Duluth, Georgia and they are the largest independent financial services marketing company in North America. To date they insure over 4 million lives and they have over 2 million investment clients. They are also traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
They’ve also received the Accredited Business award from the Better Business Bureau. If you do join this company then you can be assured that this is a legitimate business opportunity.
The Primerica Business Opportunity
As a licensed agent you will be able to advise and sell financial products to your customers….mutual funds, life assurance, mortgages and annuities. Even if you have no prior experience in the financial services sector you can join this company and become licensed.
This struck me as slightly concerning as I know from personal experience that there is a LOT of training and studying to be done in order to become a competent financial advisor (I was a mortgage broker for 11 years). I wouldn’t want to take advice from someone who had only been ‘licensed’ for 30 days or so, and had no previous industry experience.
You can also work the business part time and you will get a lot of support from the company. If you wanted to, you could quite comfortably continue with your current full time employment whilst you build a base of clients. Primerica also has one of the best track records in the Network Marketing industry and it’s estimated that there are more than 65 top players making over $1 million a year.
There are a few things that you might want to take into consideration before joining Primerica.
The first being that this opportunity certainly won’t be for everyone, establishing yourself as an ‘authority’ in financial advice comes with a massive responsibility. Always remember that Network Marketing is supposed to be fun and lucrative, so if you think influencing peoples financial futures may bother you, stay away.

The attrition rate in Primerica is MASSIVE, the company states that only around 20% of new recruits will successfully pass the relevant exams, which means that you are basically trying to fill a bucket with a massive hole in it. You are going to have to watch around 80% of your heard earned recruits quit the business and go off to find greener pastures. To build a large downline is going to take more than double the amount of time and effort.
As a Primerica agent you are a captive agent. They do not allow you to recommend and sell any products other than their own. As a financial advisor it’s your responsibility to offer your clients the best possible deal for their circumstances, usually to achieve this you will need ‘whole of market’ access.
If you find the Primerica products to be the best available for your client then all is well, but it’s something to consider before joining this business.
With all that being said, this is a great company with a fantastic track record as all the Primerica reviews online will confirm. It will appeal to only a minority of people who may or may not have previous experience in financial services. As a previous mortgage broker this is probably something that I would consider if I lived in North America.
Either way, to have the most success with this business you will need to be recruiting a large team, otherwise you may as well go and work 45 hours a week at your local bank or estate agent. Passive, monthly income is what this game’s all about and that’s only achieved by earning off the efforts of others.
Many new distributors rely solely on their ‘warm market’ to recruit new team members, but for most this will yield little results, especially in a more specialist company like Primerica. You will need to find a way that you can generate new prospects on a regular basis (preferably daily) and market to them in such a way that they will WANT to work with you.
